SUMMARY:TruSDaSh
DESCRIPTION:1st Trustworthy Scalable Data Sharing Workshop (TruSDaSh)\n\n\n\nWelcome to the first Trustworthy Scalable Data Sharing Workshop (TruSDaSh)\, co-located with the 19th Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS) conference in Seville\, Spain\, 20 – 23 May\, 2025. \n\n\n\nContinuous and incessant data production has transformed data ownership into an increasingly important asset for companies. However\, the value assigned to data sets is a direct consequence of how the data can be used and shared between data owners and stakeholders. Given the increasing demand for data\, this requires sophisticated mechanisms for discovering suitable data sets\, as well as for transforming and consuming data in highly distributed architectures. \n\n\n\nTo that extent\, there exists an urging gap for automation frameworks that simplify data exchange between providers and consumers\, namely for: (i) publishing data sets\, (ii) generation of data usage agreements or contracts between parties\, (iii) safe and contractual data exchange\, and (iv) monitoring both during the exchange and during the consumer’s use of the data obtained. \n\n\n\nThe purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners in the field of data architecture and data management with the aim of sharing ideas\, perspectives and new solutions for scalable data sharing.

SUMMARY:TEADAL 1st Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Organizations that work with data\, either creating it\, managing it or analyzing it have tremendous current and future economic opportunities. Data is being generated at an unprecedented rate\, however there are still aspects around it which need a lot of orchestration; technologically\, ethically\, legally\, geographically etc.  \n\n\n\nThe TEADAL project aims to provide key cornerstone technologies to create stretched data lakes spanning the cloud-edge continuum and multi-cloud environments\, while enabling private\, confidential\, and energy-efficient data management. The project’s mission is to develop reusable toolsets for data lakes capable of enabling trusted\, verifiable\, and energy-efficient data flows. Here\, the project tackles both stretched data lakes\, e.g.\, environments consisting of data that is stored partially in cloud environments and partially located on the edge close to where it is generated\,  and across a trustworthy mediator-less federation\, e.g.\, collections of data lakes that agree to a common standard of exchange without a third party that needs to enforce them. For that TEADAL proposes a shared approach for defining\, enforcing\, and tracing privacy/confidentiality requirements balanced with the need for energy reduction. TEADAL aims to lower the barriers to create very flexible data lake federations. SUMMARY:MLSysOps 2023
DESCRIPTION:The 1st International Workshop on Machine Learning for Autonomic System Operations in the Device-Edge-Cloud Continuum (MLSysOps 2023)\n\n\n\nIn conjunction with the International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN 2023)\, September 25\, 2023\, Rende\, Italy. \n\n\n\nTo address the ever-increasing deluge of data collected and processed by computing systems\, the trend of edge computing is establishing the effectiveness of processing data as close as possible to their source\, often consisting of dense networks of wireless sensor nodes and IoT devices. It is predicted that by 2025 around 80% of enterprise data will be generated and processed outside the traditional cloud. In fact\, edge computing is becoming even more attractive with the advent of energy-efficient micro-servers and powerful embedded devices with significant storage and processing capabilities. The advent of device-cloud-edge (D-E-C) computing aggravates the challenging task of managing heterogeneous and distributed resources\, this time at an extreme scale\, making human-in-the-loop management completely unrealistic. To achieve dynamic and flexible system and application management with minimal user involvement\, the concept of autonomic computing systems was proposed as “computing systems that can manage themselves given high-level objectives from administrators”. However\, the scale\, heterogeneity\, high dynamicity\, and intrinsic local properties/variability of the continuum yields rule-based approaches – traditionally used in autonomic systems – insufficient. Machine learning-/AI-driven management is a promising alternative\, but the quest to extend this to the full continuum faces several challenges such as scalability\, heterogeneity\, dynamics\, trust & security\, and transparency. \n\n\n\nThe goal of the workshop is therefore to bring together a community of researchers and practitioners who study problems at the intersection of AI/ML\, autonomic and cognitive computing\, D-E-C continuum\, distributed system operation\, and resilient application deployment.

SUMMARY:Concertation and Consultation on Computing Continuum: From Cloud to Edge to IoT
DESCRIPTION:The blurring barriers between Cloud and Edge computing are giving birth to a computing continuum where services and data must be managed and secured efficiently. Especially with new trends like the Metaverse\, the demand for (hybrid) cloud computing services and edge computing is expected to skyrocket. As recent studies suggest\, new data processing needs are appearing at the edge. This not only for reducing latency but also to ensure data availability and privacy protection.  Running and managing data analytics and AI where it is more efficient and effective is to be supported in the Cloud-Edge-IOT continuum. \n\n\n\nAdvancing the IoT can avoid skyrocketing communication and storage costs\, energy consumption and produce benefits for citizens and businesses thanks to the integration of AI and Machine Learning.  \n\n\n\nIn addition\, an open ecosystem built around Open Source and Open Standards is key to unleashing the potential of the European industry in driving green and digital transformation while preserving EU strategic autonomy. Software defined infrastructures based on Open Source and Open Standards will support the next step in the Cloud-Edge-IOT continuum while preventing lock-in and favouring a competitive economy for the benefit of EU citizens. \n\n\n\nThese trends have called for a shift towards the technical and business convergence of the so-far formally separated Cloud\, Edge and IoT domains\, towards an open Cloud\, Edge and IoT Computing Continuum.
